As every year, the 40th (!!!) VAAM offered many opportunities for scientific exchange and discussion of current topics in microbiology. In the poster sessions, PhD students Natalie Hager, Jan-Lorenz Weyers, Marc Mohr, Martina Grosser and Paula Schrage from the Deppenmeier, Dahl and Endesfelder research groups and Masterstudents Lea Rehm and Sarah Peschkes (RG Endesfelder) presented their work. From the IPM, Postdoc Jingjing Li and doctoral students Mara Anna Bingel, Aia Ali Abdelrahman and Verena Wiemann presented. Dr Oliver Caspari, group leader at the IfMB, gave a presentation on ‘Antimicrobial peptide import in E. coli as a defence mechanism’. The networking highlight of this fortieth VAAM conference was of course once again the conference mixer - with many discussions across institutes and disciplines - and the subsequent anniversary party under the motto ‘We are VAAMily!’.
