This year, our institute retreat took us to the stunning landscape of the Ahr Valley. Besides its picturesque landscapes, the Ahr Valley is also home to an important historical site: the government bunker. Originally constructed to safeguard about 3,000 people and to maintain the operations of the German government in the event of a nuclear war, the bunker is a testament to the Cold War era. Our tour of this complex left a deep impression and gave us a lot to reflect on. We ended the day in a charming beer garden at a local winery, enjoying the hospitality and wines of the region.
