Courses offered by the IfMB
The IfMB is involved in the teaching of the Bachelor of Biology within the framework of four modules - one compulsory module and three compulsory elective modules. In addition, project work and final theses at the IfMB are also possible.
B.Sc. modules of the IfMB
Mandatory module of 10 CP, winter semester
The module BIO-09 is the introduction to microbiology. The theoretical part covers the basics of systematics, evolution, organization and metabolism of microorganisms. In the associated practical course and the introductory lecture, basic microbiological working techniques such as sterile work, phase contrast microscopy, germ count determinations, smear procedures and the preparation of culture media are taught.
Elective module of 10 CP, summer semester
In the theoretical part of the module WBIO-A-04, basic knowledge about nutrition and growth as well as metabolism and energy conversion of microorganisms is acquired. In the practical part, knowledge of the physiology and biotechnology of microorganisms is taught using E. coli , Streptomyces and Agromyces mediolanus as model systems. Basic molecular biological, cell biological and biochemical techniques are learned.
Elective module of 10 CP, whole year
Laboratory exercise, usually takes place upon request to the corresponding research group
The module WBIO-E-01 is a laboratory exercise, which offers the opportunity to work under supervision on a current experimental project with a scientific question from the research focus of the corresponding working group.
Elective module of 5 CP, whole year
Laboratory exercise, usually takes place upon request to the corresponding research gro
WBIO-E-02 is the short version of WBIO-E-01 and is a laboratory exercise that offers the opportunity to work under supervision on a current experimental project with a scientific question from the research focus of the corresponding working group.
